Student ID

In light of truancy and youth crime measures, home educators are warned against children and young people wandering around inner city CBDs and other malls during school hours.

Whangarei, Rotorua, Hamilton – I’m sure there are other centres where signs are up in shop windows and ‘mayoral launches’ are announcing schemes to reduce crimes.

The scheme is not aimed at homeschooled children and so no reason to stress or instill worry in our children, but it is good to teach them ‘good practice’ when out and about.

I offer here an ID card on a .doc page that can fit 8 x cards/children’s IDs:

  • Put in your child/ren’s info’ text, overtyping what is there. Keep the same number of lines (or less) or the card will get too big.
  • Add your child’s passport-styled headshot photo. Click photo in text box > insert picture > from file > choose from your files > insert.
  • Click on text box (on right hand side) and right-click > “format text box” > size > 4 H x 3.5 W > OK. Adjust size of child’s photo.
  • Delete or create the number of children IDs needed.
  • Print on to white card in colour ink.
  • and then laminate the 8.5 x 5 cm (5.5 x 3 inch) card – or put into plastic sheath.
  • The child carries this if leaving your house. No fear, no stress – just a way to help your young children explain why they’re not in school as the officer may expect them to be.
